Artform Nouveau is my store dedicated to Art Nouveau. It features some reproductions by artists of the period but by far the majority of the designs are original pieces inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I have been creating designs based upon his style for almost two decades; beginning with silver as my medium of choice but also working in stained glass and now, almost exclusively, digital mediums. Being from Scotland and living in such close proximity to some of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s best architectural and design works made him an obvious inspiration for me from an early age. To me, the flowing organic curves of art nouveau coupled with Mackintosh’s use of geometric elements were a precursor to the Art Deco style which followed Art Nouveau. The majority of my own Art Nouveau designs center around what has become known widely as the “Mackintosh Rose”. The simple lines and style of these designs make them immediately recognizable as being influenced by Mackintosh.
The Artform Nouveau designs lend themselves well to a number of products from simply elegant wedding invitations and stationery, to postcards, t-shirts, jewelry and electronics cases. Distinctly feminine in nature, the Art Nouveau rose is a timelessly classic and beautiful design.
